Food IS Medicine

As a society, we have accepted the narrative that the things found in the grocery store are food.  But, to be perfectly honest, much of the commercially-grown food we buy has very little nutrition in it! For generations, we have selectively bred plants to produce pretty fruits and vegetables that hold up to being shipped across the country....at the expense of nutritional density and flavor.  That is why I prefer to grow only heirloom selections. They may not produce as much, look as nice or be as pest resistant, but the flavor and nutrient profiles can't be beat, in my humble opinion!

If we want to be healthy, we need to eat a balanced, nutrient-dense diet of REAL foods. Processed foods contribute to poor health outcomes and disease progression. When we eat better, we feel better! And, when we give our body what it needs, it has the amazing ability to heal itself!

David and I have also learned that there are many common "weeds" and even common landscape plants that are edible and delicious! Some of our favorites are stinging nettle, purslane and hosta hostons, just to name a few!!!  When I think about all the amazing plants we eliminated each time we refreshed our landscaping or weeded a flower bed, it makes me shake my head in shame! Lol

I have developed a passion for sharing what we have learned about unusual edibles and how they can help improve our health!  With food inflation so high, foraging and incorporating these nutritious little nuggets into our diets also helps the health of our wallets!!

If you want to know more, consider joining us for an upcoming foraging class!
